phone is up and running but i cannot recieve or send text messages, phoned yesterday to reg the sim but still nothing, prob something simple but its got me flummoxed.

This seems to be a common problem with the S20. Literally many people complaining of the same issue the past few days. You need to contact O2.

Hi @Annieg As @Cleoriff mentioned we have noticed and increase in people reporting this, I have asked the question internally and we will be reply as soon as we know anything. Wondering if its as simple as the message centre not set. Can you confirm if its sending or receiving or both that are the issue?

A few people said they had checked the message centre yesterday and all ok. The problems are with porting on all recent ports. The new S20 has the biggest problem when it's being set up. Although a couple of new iPhones had the issue as well.
Weird one.

Is it restricted to only number port customers or anyone not having had a number port reporting the same? Wondering if its a specific number port issue rather than the phone issue if iphone users are also reporting the same.

No . some people are getting new phones and setting them up and no texts. Not just porting. @O2Faisal
