I have received my SIM and on Thursday 21st April 2022, completed the form on line to switch to my current number. Since then I have heard nothing. The form said it would take 24 hours for action and I will know when I loose the signal from my current supplier. There has been no change in my signal strength

Were you with O2 previously? If so you need to do a sim swap Guide: Sim Swap: a mini guide 2017 update 

If you came from another network then follow this guide Guide: Migration & porting into O2
