Hi,

I have an old iphone with an O2 sim and current contract. My mother has given me a nearly new much better iphone (though her sim is on Virgin).

Can I reset her iphone to cleanse it, then merely transfer my sim to that (nearly) new phone, and set up with my icloud and all is good?

Also, how do I ensure that the data/etc on my current older iphone is transferred too?

Many thanks,

Chris

1. Yes as long as the Virgin phone is unlocked, your mother may need to speak to Virgin on 789

2. Back up all your data to iCloud and then when it comes to the new iPhone then restore the data to it.

Full details are here

- Xperia 1V - o2 and Spusu
- Pixel 8 Pro - o2 and Vodafone UK

Hi Chris,

You should be able to move your sim over to the new phone, providing it's unlocked. If she purchased it within the last two years it should be unlocked. Try switching your sim card over to the new phone to check service.

Your current sim card might be a slightly different size to the new iPhone and you might need to check that too. If your sim card is too large, you can request a replacement sim card via customer services or using the online chat on our website.

If you're sim card fits and the phone is unlocked, you can reset her phone providing she has everything she needs off of that phone before you start.

You can transfer your data by signing into iCloud or using a laptop/computer with iTunes on it.

You can find more about transferring data and resetting phones by using this link https://www.o2.co.uk/help/phones-sims-and-devices?page=devices/smartphone/apple and selecting the model of the iPhone.
