iPad settings

Hi, I’m in France at the moment.

My iPad has 18GB of unused data at present but instead of using it when I go onto the web it transfers to my hotspot, the iPhone, and uses it’s data. It’s obviously a settings issue and I’m obviously not technically literate so can anyone help with the settings to enable me simply to use the iPad?

If I switch off the phone the iPad will not connect to the internet.

You can't use the data on the sim in a tablet outside of the UK
