I am changing mobile and have inserted O2 sim from old phone into new one but I am told provider must activate the iphone. How?

How to unlock it if locked to O2 here Guide: Unlocking an O2 phone to use a different SIM card but from your post it sounds like it is locked to a different network.

All networks have a process but you need to find out which network it is locked to first.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)
