You must be aware Apple iphones are in very short supply

Pre-ordering unfortunately has never been a guarantee, merely a lottery

Depends on which model which memory and which colour you have chosen against what Apple has supplied. Someone with a different choice may get theirs first as it is what has come in with the first batch
