I regularly get messages from O2 UK  saying (below a tel. number) "this is a free call alert from O2. To disable this dial 901, press * then option 4 and option 5"

Forgive my ignorance, but is it all about? I once followed the instruction and a voice message was saying something like "you need to change your pin number or you'll be cut off withing a few days". Obviously, I have not acted on any of the above, but am getting fed up of receiving the same message  with a different phone above it. Any help would be most grateful, as I am extremely suspicious of anything asking me to change passwords/pin numbers etc. Is it a scam?

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
