My contract should have been cancelled/ended in July as I did not want to upgrade but I am still being charged ?

The contract length is the minimum term @Sammie01.
As stated by @MI5, if you don't cancel it then it will continue on a monthly rolling basis/
You can either take your number on to a new account (use a PAC code), or cancel it by using a STAC code (with your new provider), or you can contact customer services and tell them you want it to end - all of which is in the guide already posted.
