Delete an O2 account so I can update my (migrated Virgin) O2 account

How do I delete an empty, unused O2 account?

It is associated with my mobile number, so I can't change the mobile number on the other O2 account to be my phone number.

There is no account merge facility, it took an hour for the customer support to even get the other account accessible after the Virgin migration.
