I’ve had a text to say my contract has come to an end. I have tried unsuccessfully to renew my current contract via my phone . Each time I enter the security code sent to my phone nothing happens

There's no urgency to do anything as your contract will continue on a rolling 30 day basis, meaning you can stay as you are until you are ready to upgrade.
