*Steps to amend Spend Cap within My O2 and Charge to Mobile section added by @Dave-O2 on 28/11/24*

Any contracts taken after 1st October 2018 can have a spend cap applied. If your contract was taken prior to that point, you must wait until you upgrade, change or renew your contract.

O2 have some excellent help here so I won't repeat it, but some points to note:

  • To add or change a cap, you need to log in to your My O2 online or through the app. If you prefer, you can also call Customer Services

The steps to change your Spend Cap is My O2 can be seen below↘️

  • Select Spend Cap

  • Additional calls, texts and data usage, when your standard bundle or Bolt On allowance has run out. this includes going outside of the O2 Travel Inclusive and standard O2 Travel allowances.
  • Calling and texting non-geographical or premium rate numbers, aside from those premium rate numbers relating to charities, as these sit outside your Spend Cap, as set out below.
  • Calling and texting any international number from the UK.
  • Calling and texting any number outside of our Europe Zone, when you’re in our Europe Zone (excluding the UK).
  • Calling, texting and using data, when you’re in a country which is outside of our Europe Zone.
  • Calling directory enquiry services.
  • The charge you pay to O2 for accessing any third party services.

  • The price for buying a Bolt On which you opt in to. This includes O2 Travel bolt on at £6 per day.
  • Any charity donations made from your phone.
  • Charge to Mobile, such as buying digital content and apps from your phone.
  • Any charges relating to the management of your account, which includes, but is not limited to, paper bills, itemised paper bills and late payment fees.
  • Any charges for third party services (our access fees for these services are covered in your Spend Cap, as set out above).

Business customers.

For information relating to business customers, see here

Charge to Mobile

As mentioned above Charge to Mobile is not covered by a Spend Cap, so what is Charge to Mobile?

Charge to Mobile is an easy way to buy digital content. So when you're downloading a new app, ebook or movie, you don't have to spend ages finding your credit or debit card and typing your details in.

If you're on Pay Monthly, the cost just gets added to your monthly bill. And if you're on Pay As You Go, it comes out of your mobile credit. We only work with sellers we trust and we spot-check services to make sure they meet industry standards.

You can find more information on this including FAQs HERE

Similar to a Spend Cap, you can also amend your Charge to Mobile limit via My O2. The steps can be seen below ↘️

DaveO2_0-1732799924957.png

  • Select Bar & Divert

DaveO2_3-1732800771397.png

  • Select Charge to Mobile and amend your limit.

If you want to restrict ALL Charge to Mobile services, please contact customer service and this restriction can be added to your account 👍

Thank you for this excellent guide @MI5 .

Just one follow up question.  Is there a way to check, through My O2, what spend cap I have applied?  (I remember choosing a spend cap when I bought my Pay Monthly contract, but I can't remember the amount I chose.)

Hi @Winthorpe

it will show as a bolt on in your myo2 and you will receive a text each month telling you what your spend cap is.

All the information is very useful but when I call customer services to add a spend cap as you, suggest, an automated message asks me to cancel my call unless it's an emergency and go to the website #catch22. Is there a way of adding a Spend Cap via the website please?

Not to an existing contract unfortunately.

The only way is to call.

Right now try these numbers Guide: Coronavirus Community Help and Support

From the Guide above, points to note:

For this is the way 🤷

Quick question, if I want to add Disney+ subscription to my O2 account does that count towards my spend cap.

In light of the move from O2's Legacy Billing System to the new 360 system, this Spend Cap function now appears to be fully tailorable via MyO2, no call to CS required:

Screenshot 2024-05-12 080820.png

The useful Spend Caps Guide above, put together by @MI5, now needs to have a change made to the line:

to address this changed functionality - something like

  • To add or change a cap, use MyO2 and select MyO2 > Spend Cap

What do others think?

There are so many guides need changing @pgn

This one seems quite simple if @MI5 is given editing rights.

Some are not as easy though. I asked @Dave-O2 for clarification on one of my guides

Guide: How to Pay Your Bill (Airtime & Device Plans)and I'm still waiting for him to find out the answers to the questions I asked. . 🤔

Nicely revised, @Kei-M_O2 - and thanks for the screenshot, @MI5

This was suggested back in May this year, so long overdue, thank you.

Good afternoon

After giving @MI5 a nudge I've now updated this Guide to also include Charge to Mobile (now Spend Caps & Charge to Mobile on O2)

  • I've included a dedicated Charge to Mobile section with instructions on how to amend the Charge to Mobile limit via My O2 (including screenshots)
  • Instructions on how to restrict ALL Charge to Mobile services.
  • Added instructions on how to amend Spend Cap via My O2 (with screenshots)
  • Guide: Spend Caps & Charge to Mobile on O2 and Index has been updated.

Tagging @Cleoriff@pgn@madasaf1sh@gmarkj@jonsie@Enlli@Oxonian@Bambino so you're all aware 👍

What an odd place for the MyO2 team to place Charge-to-Mobile on the web view, logically it belongs with Spend Caps, as you have done, @Dave-O2.

Good update, the screenshots really help!

This might help...
