Apple Devices. New Bugs

Apple has said that all iPhones, iPads and Mac computers are affected by two major flaws in computer chips.

Tech companies have been racing to fix the Meltdown and Spectre bugs, that could allow hackers to steal data.

Apple said it had already released some patches but there was no evidence that the vulnerability had been exploited.

I have no Apple devices but found this statement quite worrying....

The Meltdown and Spectre flaws are found in many modern computer processing units - or microchips - made by Intel and ARM, and together the firms supply almost the entire global computer market.

Yes this seems to be all over the news today. Apple seem to be having a lot of security flaws these days despite their claims of protected software...

It must be a bad one as they have admitted the flaw pretty quickly..

This isn't a problem specific to Apple, @Cleoriff. It affects practically every phone, desktop, laptop, tablet, and anything else that has a chip in it on the planet, and could go as far back as chips made 20 years ago.

I agree @Bambino which is why I quoted the last paragraph in bold. Worrying indeed

I only posted because the subject of the thread is a little misleading, @Cleoriff. Unfortunately, this affects us all.Shirty

I agree @Bambino. Though when I did a Google search this morning other media outlets appeared to be 'targeting' Apple. The Guardian and Techradar are just two.  One if them does provide a link to the 'bugs' which gives a much wider perspective of the dangers to other devices. It was on BBC lunchtime news again. Same headline.

BBC needs a slap on the wrist, then. I'm not an Apple fan, but they shouldn't be attributing this to them.

I don't think they are attributing this to Apple. They have stated that Apple admit their devices have the security flaw. Then so do many others including PC's and other smartphones etc.

Vulnerabilities were discovered by Google researchers back in June of last year.

Anyway more here...

But the BBC news tonight singled Apple out in the opening headlines which was just to sensationalise it and to keep owners of Apple devices on the edge of their seats biting their nails.

Perhaps its an income tax thing or something to do with the Irish Republic.....?
