how long does porting in take

Trying to find out how long it takes to port a number from Tesco payg to o2 payg as I have had no service on my o2 sim card since 12pm today

quick update-went into the o2 shop told him what was happening he had a look at my account done something to it there and then, hey presto the signal came on so after 2 and half years away im back with o2 thanks again for the replies @MI5 and @Bambino cheers

@captainprice It can take up to 24 hours but can be quicker sometimes. Has service stopped on your Tesco sim? If you've put in the O2 sim, try turning the phone on and off every couple of hours or so.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

Average time about 4 hours but rebooting phone is vital.

Thanks for the replies still no service on my 650 tried the sim in 3 other phones just to rule out the phone in each case they all say no service,when I put their sims in my phone I get a signal so hopefully it's s duff sim going to try a o2 shop tomorrow see what they say

It would be unusual but it could still be porting.
If it's not on by the morning it would be wise to assume a faulty sim though.
