Which Browser To Choose

Apologies if this has already been discussed but I can't find it on here.

I have been a longstanding IE user but now I want to change as I am hearing a lot of negative comments about IE. Can you recommend another browser that I can use? I am running a Windows 8.1 laptop.

Ref -> Google Chrome.

I've recently come across people's thoughts that it's a memory hog !
