Trying to buy a Pebble Steel watch in your stores

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi there. Went into the O2 store yesterday wanting to buy the new Pebble Steel smartwatch. I went and asked if they stocked them. Yes sir came the reply i`ll just get you one now. The assistant came straight back with two boxes. Can I see one I asked. Oh no sorry sir, we can`t take them out of the box! But I want to see what it looks like I replied. We can show you the Pebble Watch ( Plastic one ) but we can`t open the box to show you the Pebble Steel. At which point I said Thank You and walked out. The point I am making here is, if I want to buy a phone, its out of the box and shown to me. I think you should review this policy. You lost a sale and I will be looking elsewhere in future.

That was my point above ^^ each shop should have a working demo model of every item they sell.

Interesting legal point because in this position the buyer is no better off than when buying online, you hand over the money first and the transaction is processed before you get your hands on the product.

Therefore effectively should Distance Selling Regs apply ?

One would have thought so. If you look at it that way...

The working demo model may well be working fine....but the one in the box is a bit of a dud.....And needs exchange...and then another set of trial and tribulations begin.....

Good viewpoints.

I personally wouldn't part with hundreds of pounds for an item with a broken seal.

Ie ; if the Apple employee walked up to me with an iPhone 6 plus at £600+ with the seals removed (plastic wrapping in this case) I certainly wouldn't be buying it.

So yes ....seals on items are relevant. (To me anyway 😄 )

I wouldn't part with hundreds of pounds without thoroughly inspecting the specific product that I was buying.

I only buy relatively low cost items online.

Probably the most expensive item was just under £100 but I'd already viewed and touched the product in a store.

I have said before I buy everything online. I have only had one problem and it was with a new laptop. In fairness that was easy to return with the companies courier service.

The Samsung gear watch I have just bought, is an online purchase. As its a Christmas present it has been opened and a quick check performed. Who knows whether it works properly though ...until fully in use....?

Having shopped online for years I have no problems with this way of doing things...

I actually prefer to shop online these days.
Maybe because I'm lazy or because I can't be spending what little spare time I have running around shops but I do the vast majority online now slight_smile
