The display is the only thing that is a let down for me. Everything else seems great though. I only uodate every couple of years so I put some thought into it before i do.

The fact that it was half the price of an S9+ was enough for me. It will also get OS updates faster than any Samsung and in all honesty, the screen is so much better than my iPhone 7, so whilst not as good as the S9 it's sits perfectly within the boundaries of acceptability.
The 6T is due in around 3 months too so that might take it up a notch or two.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

I bought my Note 8 sim free and whilst I don't use it to it's full capacity, it's fast and battery life is excellent.

I also got a great deal on a Simo tariff when O2 had a sale on...

I already use a large resolution so not willing to downgrade to an odd aspect ratio.

2.1:1 AR might not seem a bit deal but the 1080i seems to be a bit non-seller for me the amoled screen sounds good though.

Not really want to return to samsung bloatware either. Not sure about Huawei either. So maybe a lg v30 or 40 with led display.

I will be willing to spend around 700 and to be fair the display on the iPhone 7 isn't. Bad either.

Couple of questions that might help decide.
Do you have wired headphones that you want to use?
Do you want/need wireless charging?
Do you want/need expandable (interchangable) memory?

The v30 has an OLED screen at 1440 x 2880, a headphone jack and expandable memory.
The G7 has an LCD screen at 1440 x 3120, a headphone jack and expandable memory but less RAM and ROM than the v30.
Both Samsungs have an AMOLED screen at 1440 x 2960 and a bit more RAM/ROM than the v30.
The P20 has an OLED screen but at a lower resolution (1080 x 2160) and no headphone jack.
The OnePlus is also an AMOLED screen again at a lower resolution than the LGs and Samsungs (1080 x 2280) and slightly more RAM than the LGs.
It also depends on what sort of UI you prefer.
You also can use the P20 and the Note as a mini desktop if you want.

Interesting thing. Samsung Galaxy s9+ and note 9 both cost 869 at the moment. Although I want a SIM free and factory firmware.

I like analogue sound so will be using wired headphones so a good DAC is a consideration point. Although many are embedded onto the SoC processors usually have these units.

For music i usually use my fiio x3 with a dedicated headphone op amp. One day i will update it though.

Memory storage is not that important alas 64gb would be a good start point.

Quick charge is pretty essential and wireless could be useful.

I was looking at both the note 9 and s9+ the other day. Slight differences in scale and capabilities.

We will see

If you're getting an O2 contract for it, I would go with the Huawei P20 Pro.  I wanted the OnePlus 6T, but despite being around half the price of the Huawei to buy outright, on O2 the contracts offered cost more for the same mins/txts/data which I just don't get

I love my Huawei, it's great grin

Thanks

Not sure to be honest. The v40 seemed quite tempting.
