O2 Money startup problems

Anonymous
Not applicable
I wanted a prepaid credit visa to spend on the web.

I signed up for the load and go. It said on the webpage that I could spend it anywhere, including the web.

It turned up. Got it going. Rayyyyyy!
This lasted 5secs

It cannot be used on the web (even Paypal threw it out)

When I enquired I was told that this card had restrictions (ie ATM use only)
No ideas why. No inclination from customer care to help get a card that I wanted. I have to wait until next year.!!!! Ta

I had no problems filling in the form etc, so where did it all go wrong?
Customer care don't really seem at all bothered about it.

Thanks O2 😞 😞 :mansurprised:

Paypal has to be linked to a bank account and/or credit card.

So obviously it won't work there, as you could be making purchases with no credit on the card, and as this type of card cannot be overdrawn, it is not suitable.

It should work ok with most other Visa transactions, Paypal is a special case, and they're not going to leave themselves wide open to fraud are they?

Paypal would let you pay with this card once they have your verified bank account details.

There was £100 on the card.
Another prepaid visa scheme run by 3V worked a treat previously. I never had a problem. Getting cash on the card was the fiddly bit.

I was told by the O2 support team that this card would not be able to purchase anything on line... no Amazon. no hotel bookings etc When I asked them what could it do then... they could only come up with "use an ATM". The ATM bit worked fine.

I could not see the point of going to the cashpoint to get money out , pay it to O2 and then take the cash out of a cashpoint (possibly the same one) :mansurprised: . I felt cheated because the advert promised so much more. 😞

To round it all off they would not upgrade the card etc to make it live up to the advert. It leaves a sour taste etc. I will not be looking at the advert in future unless there is a point of contact.(the opposition is red hot in this department)

You can use it perfectly fine online.

With the Load and Go, because your details and age cannot be verified then certain sites will be blocked such as adult sites, or buying age restricted items online.

Open ended transactions cannot be made with the card, such as hotel reservations because if you are using that card and then make room service charges then there is a chance there wont be enough on the card to cover it.

You can't upgrade to the Cash Manager for 12m because the system on Natwest's side can't process it.

Wow this is different..
So long as I do not bet or buy porno I wont be blocked? No probs there!

err hang on Paypal threw it out when I tried to register the card as a method of payment. There was no bill to pay and the account was in credit. I would expect the card to be rejected if I was trying to pay for something without funds in the account. AND my previous experience of prepaid visa was never a problem.

Howza about paying for petrol or Morrisons?
The help line had definitely said that it was only ATMs.
Perhaps I should give them another ring?

You can't use the "pay at pump" function, because if you've only got a tenner on your card and then fill up with £50 then it can't take the money.

You can buy your shopping, or anything with an age restriction instore because then it is up to the person in the shop to verify you are old enough to buy it.

Exactly that is the nature of the beast.

You cannot spend money that is not there,

This is exactly what budgeting is about.

But the card should be able to be used if the funds are there to pay the bill.

At present I am lead to believe that it is not. It has been explained to me that this card will not act as a visa card. The adverts still on the web promise that I can spend (my money, not theirs) wherever visa is accepted. This is not so in my case!!! WHY NOT??? I am still sadly disappointed with my treatment so far. I would be impressed if the advert said that the Load and Go was a severely limited card and targeted at the pocket money market. On Aug 13 it was still being promoted as a more limited spending card in comparison with the Cash Manager.

Prepaid credit is the way to go... the banks need to wake up to this. :robotmad: :robotmad:

They have - this is the only free one on the market though that I can find.

From the FAQs:

There are some restrictions on your O2 Money card. You won't be able to use it in situations when the amount to pay is left open-ended - like in hotels, for car rental or pay-at-pump petrol stations. It also won't work for wire-transfer money orders. Other restrictions also apply for all Load & Go and non verified Cash Manager cards (the ones with an £1,800 load limit) to help prevent under 18's from buying over 18 related products and services such as gambling.
