O2 are facilitating a premium rate text scam from a company called Nexgen. According to news reports 02 were made aware of the scam back in July 2017 by the regulator and have done nothing to protect their customers. Shame on you 02!

O2 have failed to protect their customers from numerous Payforit scams like Nexgen. Very large numbers of consumers have been affected by these scams. Take a look at Lasevia Ltd, who have been scamming O2 customers for well over a year. Trustpilot reviews show large numbers of O2 customers have lost money as a result of these scams.
O2 have not been meeting their obligations in respect of these services, resulting in defrauded consumers not obtaining a refund. The reassuring words on the O2 website "We'll always make sure you get your money back if your a victim of fraud" appear to be totally untrue!
Once you have taken up your case with the scamming company, you are supposed to be able to escalate your case to your network.
It seems that O2 are routinely refusing to meet their obligations in this respect.
O2's reluctance to act to stop the scams probably stems from the levels of profit they make from them. Sources in "the industry" have claimed that O2 take 30% of the income from these scams!
Fortunately, the regulator has now come to the inescapable conclusion that the levels of fraud from Payforit subscriptions are now unsustainable. They are currently consulting on proposals which should help clean up the industry.
If you've been affected by Payforit scams, please get involved and respond to the consultation. The proposals will force the use of 2 factor authorisation for Payforit subscriptions which should defeat the current exploits used to subscribe consumers to bogus subscriptions.
What they won't do is to force the networks to take the responsibility for properly policing the system which they have created. There needs to be both a published disputes mechanism and a proper refund mechanism.
