A smartwatch is useful for seeing who the email / text is from before deciding if it's worth removing the phone from pocket. I could never read an email or reply to a text with my eyesight.

The Sony SW3 is one of the better ones for sure.
In fact I'd go as far as to say the SW2 is even better value at today's prices.
