Discussions about O2 and age verification

Just received a text from TPTB saying I need to confirm I'm over 18 to view adult material. Until then, it'll remain blocked on my phone. I don't have a credit card so I'll need to do this in store. Just wondering, I have no particular desire to view pornographic material or register to flirt websites on my phone but if I don't have this ban lifted, will it affect my general day-to-day browsing in any way? Otherwise, I won't bother.
Secondly, when did this come about? Never needed to confirm my age in the past. And why couldn't they have sorted this in store when I bought the phone?

To all those who have kindly warded me off GTranslate, I agree that it's pretty coarse, but my O and A level languages then do the whittling. For capturing the immediate sense of large documents - literally, at a glance - it is invaluable slight_smile
Anyway, back to the topic. No reason why this site should be barred and no reason why O2 should be using this third-party site to gather credit card info without notification.

The age verification! i recieved last night, has been cleared! But that required 2 phone calls to o2, then me having to travel to cardiff's o2 shop!
Paying £5.90 to park! givnig my details at the shop, then being told i would have to wait up to 48hrs! but advised to take dongle out! + put back in, It then WAS clear of the age verification!
I have just renewed for a month with o2, But will be changing my phone+ broadband provider, at the end of the month. This company has cost me time,+
money, I am appalled at the sheer nerve of it all! And i want me + other customers who have suffered this intrusion! to vote with thier feet + leave o2:

This is ridiculous to me, google translate is blocked ? I would deem google itself as a worse tool.
Looking forward to spending too much time on the phone with the customer service. :mansurprised:

This was the final straw for me after finding out my unlimited bolt on was limited to 400 mb.
Went to 3 website and ordered a sim, at far cheaper than I'm paying for my text and web bolt on, but without free texts, but with a 2 gb limit, just have to watch my calls as they're not included, but I rarely call people anyway.
No one should have to go into their phone provider and ask if they can gamble and look at naughty websites, and your provider shouldn't know if you are anyway, because they should mind their own business.

Ooh Been told by a mod I'm welcome to share negative experiences about o2 but they've moderated my message, is that some sort of orwellian newspeak for "shut up and stop critising the brand"

Lol the mods wanna censor posts to protect lil kiddy-winks from naughty words despite the fact you have to be 13 to legally be a member here. :womanindifferent:

To be fair one of the mods did actually say why he had modded one of the other threads about this at the bottom of the post. 'Anti o2 post' or something similar, whenever I mod a post that is exactly how I do it so looks like their board is the same.
I would much prefer this than some email that does not even tell you which post they have modded of yours or why!

Ok so 18 months into a 24 month contract with no problems and warm fuzzy feeling when talking to others about the good service O2 has given me in this time ,I am hit with this!!!
Age verification pop up spam first encountered yesterday morning customer care contacted explained the situation to them asked why it had been applied after 18 months? (No idea!!!!) remove sim switch phone on and off and should clear within the hour ,,It did.
Roll on to this morning still all good ,got a text from O2 CC looking for feedback on my CC experience filled out and instantly age verification spam returned ,contacted o2 CC to be told they are having ISSUES with the system and to wait 24 hours before contacting them again.
O2 My Phone , My Contract , My choice to leave when contract ends!!!!!
GET THIS SORTED OUT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

true, it just made me laugh that they removed the word monkey from my post, what a fantastically random word to censor.
But you're right, I'd rather know why I was being censored.
