So I have been with O2 for a while now, got an upgrade for £36.00 on an S3 nearly 2 years ago. Since then they increased the price to £37.15 and now they email me saying it will increase again to £38.15. Now I don't mind it's only £1 or £2 in the end of the day just dislike the way my contract changes and I have no power over it. Thank god my contract ends in May and they increase the price in March. They can have their extra £1-£2 a month but they will be losing a customer.

Oh wow there's 11 pages already discussed about this, but yeah wish you luck to anyone moving to another network. It was good while it lasted.

There are several threads all on similar lines to this. O2 have clearly rattled their customers over this.

I have noted on the Which website that someone has put a very powerful argument online about the increases for mms and other calls being over 2.7%. They argued the point quoting various bits from Ofcom and o2 have backed down. Will see if I can find it later and copy it over.

AIt’s really simple, provided you can stand your ground.

Have you ever made a call that isn’t included in your minutes (0870,0845, etc) or sent a picture message that isn’t covered by your bundle? If so then you are getting a 2.7% baserate rise + a further 14.3% rise on those calls and messages.
This is above the 10% material detriment rule that O2 use, and therefore you can cancel without penalty. Remind them of this, and don’t take no for an answer. With the baserate rise it needed to be 7.3% or above.

If you are on O2 refresh then you need to pay off your credit plan as while it is separate from the call plan it is a part of your contract too.

Ofcom General Provision 9.6 does apply due to the material detriment rule.

And here it is especially for you damien1:
