Hi Everyone,
As with any forum, we have to tackle the issue of spam. While we have a team of moderators that look after spam removal, there are times where spam stays around longer than we'd like.
We know that spam makes the place look untidy and doesn't provide you with a great experience in our forums. So we're going to be trialling a number of changes that should reduce the amount of spam.
These changes will not affect any existing users so continue to use the forum as you normally would.
If you've got any questions or comments, please do leave them here for us!
Thanks
Abs

Ironically, after posting the details of the porno link in my moderated post, I red-flagged it to ensure the Mods did actually see it but they still sent me the PM grin

No doubt that happened after they were all able to verify it was a porno link, viewing it multiple times just to be sure grin

O2 did say they are taking steps to try to cut out the spam at source by using new innovations. I agree with everyone on the thread. At the moment nothing has been done that we can observe and we can all spot and flag the offenders as soon as they register or post.
Seems that we are still doing the moderators job for them and there also seems to be no difference in the amount of spam getting through.
The question is whether we should carry on doing this very frustrating and time consuming, pain-in-the backside for much longer. There is already a significant reduction in the number of genuine posters whose query is buried and surrounded by inane drivel. I mean, seriously, does this type of solid manure actually succeed in its intention of promoting dubious wares and practices?
I have set my own deadline whereas if O2 have still not implemented visible changes or altered the terms and conditions of registration, then I'm afraid I'm out of here in 30 days.
Do you know, I'm not even sure this post will still be here in the morning such is the petty action of moderators in being all to quick in judging and censoring regular posters while expecting the same people to to do the biggest part of their job for them. It takes a lot to anger me, I'm usually laid back and very tolerant but I'm very close to breaking point over this.
And just a final thought......I wonder what the ratio is between moderation flagged by forum members to that found by the vigilance of the moderators themselves. I would seriously be very interested!

Here's a test :
TrougsOrasoub registered at 3:49am this morning using a link to a car warranty comparison article with other references to car warranty comparisons in their Profile.
I'll bet my post gets spotted before the advertising registration.

Agreed Steve. I do like trying to help people here, but despite my jokey response, I did feel aggrieved that I was censored and sent an admonishing pm for being offensive and hurtful to the spammer I named ( but didn't actually comment other than in asking if the mods had seen it!)
If that's the level of moderating in here then I'm not sure I want to be part of it to be honest.
