Why is it that o2 could have taken the Vodafone route with Apple Watch where roaming in Europe is included but instead they decided to take the EE route where roaming does not work ?

if your customers wanted this lack of facility, they wouldnt have waited over a year to move to EE. The last one in the game is expected to have invested in the newest tech for the best services to be the best, what am i missing here ?

By not including it they save money.
There will probably be a cost option to add it at some point.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

Could just be that the billing system they are using doesn't support it as yet as they've had to upgrade to support eSIM but they maybe developing (or waiting on their supplier to release) a patch to support roaming

Not sure why they'd want to do it to save money as everyone knows Apple fans will want to rock their Apple watch on holiday, even if they need a second mortgage to pay the bill when they get back.

There are those of us that especially now when the mobiles are getting bigger and are not comfortable in pockets, want to be be free of it and just go out knowing that an important call will not be missed. 😆

to be fair, o2 do seem to have launched a more feature packed version of the Apple Watch eSIM support. You can move your plan from one watch to another or re-add it after resetting the watch or getting the hardware replaced/repaired by apple all from just using the Watch App on the iPhone without having to call customer services. With the other two UK providers supporting apple watch you have to call up and provide the EID of the apple watch and wait for days for the eSIM to start working again, although EE is quite quick at that.
