Hi, an older relative in his 70s wants a smartphone as so many places require apps these days
He has little knowledge of phones apart from messaging, and hasnt a
Is slightly deaf
Has 02 PAYG and wants to keep his number
But above all needs a guide to setting up and travelling round a smartphone
He needs apps for the docs; travelling by car, booking restaurants;
Also if he needs a phone with clear amplified sound does 02 have one now and can it be tested at home? I had to buy one from another outlet in order to test mine at home.
Best Wishes

Keeping his number is no problem at all, no matter what phone or where it comes from.
To use apps it will have to be a smartphone, so that's either Android or iPhone.
All O2 choices are in the online shop for viewing https://www.o2.co.uk/shop
O2 allow you 14 days to try out the phone and return or exchange it if not suitable.
Currently using:
OnePlus 6 (O2 & Sfr), Z3 Tablet (Three UK), iPhone 8+ (EE)

I think the easiest phone to use is an iphone.
Alas, not the cheapest!

Hi there @Jenny105
I just came across your topic and thought I'd pop this link in here as it relates to choosing phones if you have a hearing impairment, it's from O2's Access for All help pages, see here. Maybe there could be some useful information for your relative too.
→ COVID-19 support - Help and support from O2 during the lockdown
→ Access for You: Registration - Find out how to register for our Access for You service.

→ Have a query about your account? See if the My O2 how-to guide will help
If you'd like to take part, why not register?

Thanks for the rep[ies . We went to the local store today to look at Smartphones. There was an 1hr 1/2 wait to see someone so we passed on that and will return early am
Col wants pay as you go, cos he will use the phone about once a day, texts about 4 times a day and only wants to use apps for
picking up emails whilst outdoors ; occasional map reading on holiday;
NHS apps;
and one or 2 others of similar nature.
Hence the desire for PAYG as everything is sort term during a day.
I pay 6.00 a month and waste most of my mins, texts and data as they are hardly used.

I would recommend the Moto E series
https://www.motorola.co.uk/moto-e-family
£99.99 RRP sim free or the same from o2
https://www.o2.co.uk/shop/motorola/e6s#contractType=payasyougo
I also have a Planet Computers Gemini
I work in IT as an Enterprise Messaging and Collaboration Tools Administrator (Office 365, Slack and much much more) and manage hardware both Mobile and Desktop / laptop, my desk is a bit like PC World

We are all customers and dont have access to any o2 accounts

Yesterday we got to 02 shop. Louis helped my relative to puchase a Sony Xperia phone. His first ever. Louis listened carefully and placed a few relavent apps in key positions. Hubs is up away now. Many Thanks.
