Anomaly or rip off?

So I’m weighing up on a phone to get.. and I’m sailing through, narrowing the choice & then I notice the cost of the plans changing.

Surely this is a mistake?

£20 for 4gb on older models..

But pick a newer model & they’re slapping an extra £6 on the same tariff.

I expect it's accurate @Anonymous, though you could ring Customer Services to check.

Prices tend to increase when you look at the newer models of what are considered flagship phones. Having said that the Google Pixel, price-wise isn't a flagship phone. So why such an increase I've no idea.

Lover of all things Samsung. Currently using Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus 128gb

All the new iPhones, the pixel & Note 9 have the inflated price. But S9+ and older seem to be cheaper.

It’s a bit of a pi$$ take if it’s for real, and it’s got me thinking about looking elsewhere!

edit.. just checked the One Plus 6 & that’s £24 for 4gb 😕

Variations are commonplace unfortunately. The same data can cost more on different phones. It would seem if you can afford an expensive phone then you can afford to pay a higher tariff!

@Anonymous

You might want to take a look at Carphone Warehouse.

You will probably find a much cheaper deal there and stay on the O2 network..

The other option is to not buy a phone as soon as it's released, (which will always be more expensive because it's the latest and greatest), and buy a slightly less new model, (with probably as much spec as you're likely to ever need), and if you can afford it, buy the phone outright sim free and get a sim only contract (which usually works out cheaper in the long run). The big drawback for many doing this is not having the disposable income to fork out such a large amount in one go.

Oh, and don't call me Shirley....

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

Cheers all. I’m just astounded to see such a blatant attempt to rip people off.

I’ve saved £450 and I thought I’d whack a big sum down, then if I wanted a new phone at some point I wouldn’t have to fork out a huge wad to pay off the phone plan, with lower monthly payments a bonus (or so I thought)

It’s a shame watchdog ain’t on these days. I can see Anne having a field day!

@Anonymous  I bought the S9+ from Carphone Warehouse for my grandson (Birthday and Christmas combined present)

It is a 24 month contract on O2.

£99 upfront. Unlimited texts and calls, 15GB data (upgraded to 30gb as part of the promotional offer)

£34 per month.

O2 couldn't match that, or come anywhere close.

Thing is.. I won't use that much data. 2-4 gig will do. Looks like like it's time to head over to giffgaff & stick my wad in there. It's still technically O2 (telefonica owned) so my loyalty, although wavering.. isn't 😉
