I purchase a 16gb micro sd card for my Xda mini exec and it can't see the card :robotsurprised:

It does see my old 2gb card grin

Is there a software upgrade required :robotindifferent:

Older phones are only compatable with Micro/MiniSD cards.

These cards only go up to 4GB as a maximum.

The new cards are SDHC (High Capacity) format and use a different storage method.

To the best of my knowledge the card is read by specific hardware in your device, so a software / firmware upgrade would have no effect.

BTW: best resource for cheap cards/batteries I have found is 7dayshop .com

Been shopping with them for 10 years from the old camera film days and they are remarkably cheap and reliable.

They have recently axed their delivery charge, can recommend

Pop over to the XDA Developers site (google it) and find out if someone has released a .cab file to let you use a SDHC card in your device.
