02 blocking Fring, Slick IM and others?

Hi,

Just switched to an unlimited data plan for my N95 8gb. Ive found Fring, Slick IM and sometimes Opera Mini will not connect via WAP/3g etc. My built in browser will work no problem.

Do 02 block connection to servers for IM progs? 😐

Are you on PAYM or PAYG?

If PAYM use the o2 mobile web settings.

Im on a Business Pay Monthly 18 month Contract.

Ive tried downloading settings - No change, still I can only connect via built in browser and sometimes Opera.

Fring and slick IM still wont work.

will not connect via WAP/3g

Problem is you are using the wrong connection. If you have one listed as 'O2 Mobile Web' then use that. If you don't have one then create a new one with these settings:

APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
Username: o2web
Password: password

The setting is in:
Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > Access Points

Ahhh thanks for that! grin

Out of interest, why did 02 send me connection settings that wouldnt work fully?

Also, am I right in thinking I can use my N95 8gb as a modem for my laptop??

O2 send settings for WAP browsing and MMS. They don't send out Web settings for some reason. My N95 came with them already in though.

Yes, it can be used as a modem, but might be against the T&C's depending on your data allowance.

Im not sure what the data allowance is - Ive got 'free' internet as way of a 'free' bolt on with my £35 tarrif.

The web bolt-on doesn't cover modem use.
