grin Hi,

I am new here so go easy on me,i have always wanted an iphone, but could not afford the price when they came out at first,so a few days ago i seen for sale on ebay a brand new in box, never opened iphone 3G 8Gb,seller says it came from the business department of O2, :robotindifferent: so i am waiting for it to arrive, what i want to know from the experts on this forum is,when i open it ,will it have a sim card inside the box, :robotindifferent: how do i activate it, :robotindifferent: and what tariff will it work on ,PAYG,etc,i have never used an iphone before,so am unsure about all this activation stuff, and will i be able to request an unlocking in the future or not,so i can put my vodafone sim in the iphone :robotindifferent: sorry about all the questions but i hope some one who is more informed than me can help with this query, thanks grin

the sealed box will not have a sim in.

But a genuine o2 iPhone will work with any o2 sim and tariff just certain functions only work with an iPhone tariff.

Look at the link in my signature for info on activation

but most things answered in the tech thread

unlock see this link http://shop.o2.co.uk/update/unlockmyiphone.html
iPhone 11 Pro 256gb on unlimited data
iPad Pro 12.9” 2020 256gb refresh o2 family discount
Apple Watch series 4
My first mobile was in 1995 a CM-R111 from sony on Cellnet.

Thanks for quick reply grin
so my iphone will work with any o2 sim tariff,so when i go to the unlocking request form, and it says what type of user are you,,pay monthly,PAYG,business user, etc what one do i select 😐 ,as the phone was originally from the business department of o2,but i am not a business user :so if i use a PAYG sim in it can i still get it unlocked,or will o2 think it is a business phone 😐 also as the box is still sealed,is the phone locked to o2,or is it unlocked 😐 and how would i know if it was locked to o2 or not :robotindifferent: thanks for any help grin

To unlock you first need to activate so depends on what you use to activate as to what you fill in on the form

all iPhones if it is an o2 issued will be locked to o2 but not to a tariff or type untill activated with an o2 sim

and you will know if locked when activating it will say sim not supported in iTunes if you do not use an o2 sim and it is locked to o2
iPhone 11 Pro 256gb on unlimited data
iPad Pro 12.9” 2020 256gb refresh o2 family discount

Thanks again slight_smile

You have been very helpful,if i use the vodafone sim in the iphone when activating it for the first time, and it says sim not supported, will it damage the iphone in any way,i mean will it prevent me putting the o2 sim card in afterwards, and then activating with the o2 sim card 😐 thanks again for your advice slight_smile
