I lost service about 4pm and after switching off 3 or four times I checked the 02 website to see if any notices about faults. When I didnt see anything obviously there, I contacted my sister who lives just a mile away and her o2 service is working. I therfore put it down to a faulty phone. It was only on delving deeper into the o2 site that I found these discussions and find that many other people are having the same problem all round the country. Why oh why have o2 not put something prominent on their website to save all the wasted time and give us some idea how long the problem is going to last??????? EJ Accrington Lancs

I thought I had posted it in this post, but must be the wrong one.

Anyway, the issue was with some batches of SIMs being routed differently to others, therefore only some were affected rather than others.

Just keep an eye on the status page http://status.o2.co.uk and you'll be up-to-date with what happens. slight_smile

This must be a breach of their contract to provide a service fit for purpose

Have checked the status page and according to my postcode, everything should be working fine !! However, despite turning my device on and off and briefly getting a signal, it rapidly went back to SOS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it is not location based it is a network authorisation issue so it looks like a data center fault preventing sim authorisation.

I have read all the blarb at the bottom, I am aware there are ongoing issues, I am just pointing out that O2 themselves are saying there are no service issues in my postcode when myself and my friend who lives in the same area do not have service. I have been checking on the messages on the main O2 page and have told friends about it too.

That will be because the cell site near you is working and not the cause of the issue.

That is why the unexpected area states the issue

I am guessing that the issue is a database or data center issue affecting a certain range of sim's
