iphone 4 availability - customer service

Anonymous

I've been trying to get hold of an iPhone 4. The online stock check wasn't working out for me so I tried calling customer service. None in stock - try calling back.
Today myself and a colleague heard a rumor that there were in stock and called at the same time. She ordered one and I was told there was none in stock - obviously I knew this was not the case and eventually I was told that higher tier customers get priority.
I cant help feeling that being encouraged to call back for a handset that customer service currently has no intention of providing me with is disrespecting my time and trust. If not all o2 customers are equal just say so, I'm happy to wait for a phone I'm just not happy to be lied to.
I cant wait to get the phone but for now I think it's time to cancel my measly lower tier £20 a month contract and wait for a more reputable company to be able to provide it.

They are in short supply, you just need to be patient and stop listening to rumours.

To be honest I don't think O2 know what they are doing. I ordered an iPhone 4 yesterday by calling them and I was never asked about my tariff or what priority I was or anything like that.

prking- You missed my point. I'm upset because I feel customer service are being cloak and dagger about allocation. Thanks for your reply though!

When I called them I was told that, because I was a BLUE customer (not GOLD or SILVER or whatever they call them), I wouldn't have received a text asking if I wanted to upgrade, and therefore I couldn't because the limited stock was reserved firstly for higher tier customers.

Made sense to me. I'm disappointed that I'm not classed as one of the higher tiers but I understand why. I'm more than happy to wait. It's only a phone after all, and I've already got a perfectly good one that will do just fine for now.

It might hopefully work in my favour though - I'm going to wait for the white one and get that. Then I'll see if anyone with a black one who was too impatient or desperate to wait for the white one will trade theirs for mine, with a little bit of cash thrown in on top... I figure that if some people were desperate enough to queue from 5am on launch day and blindly stump up the cash, just so they could have the iPhone 4, then a percentage of those people really wanted the white one, and so would be prepared to do the swap... I'm not bothered what colour I get. It's going in a case anyway.

You are right, it's fine that they segregate their customers, many companies do, but being lied to is a completely different ball game. I was lucky, it took me one call last Friday to order a phone, but I am not a gold-priority customer, so there is a lot of mis-communication within the ranks. I really do feel for those still trying to order over the phone, as it is down to chance and nothing more as to whether you will be successful.

Tulstar - Cool. The white one is the one my friend ordered today. I dont know why I keep getting told to ring back then, sounds like you had a totally different experience. It is only a phone, I'd rather go without one for now then keep paying o2 money / trying to find out whats what. I've never had an iphone before (It was going to be a birthday treat) so I dont even know what I'm missing yet. But I'm still convinced o2 customer services were told to say to lower tier customers 'we're out of stock' when that was not case rather than explain - as you just did so well. And that's REALLY ANNOYING. haha!

You're missing a lot of things that have been around for years and years, but that Apple have managed to fiddle with a little bit and call "revolutionary"... wink

Seriously though, I've had a 3G and 3GS and I liked them - not to the extent that I worship Apple, as some people on here seem to do, but I thought that they were good devices. I'm going to get the iPhone 4 because I want to use it for a few months to see what it's like - there are so many other phones out there now that are just as capable. If I don't get on with the new iPhone, I'll just sell it!

i was on a £45 a month 18 month contract, tried multiple times like the guys said on here about phoning 100 and asking for a upgrade, everytime being told dont have any in stock keep checking website.

at £45 a month i thought id be 1 of the higher tier users, silver or gold maybe??
but no luck with them for me.

luckily ive just walked out of phones 4 u with 1 now.

the most annoying thing about all this that i experienced was, yes,i kept checking the website, but all the stores that supposedly had stock at the time, wouldnt answer the phones.

now that really annoyed me!!!! :robotmad: :robotmad: :robotmad:
