iPhones and pay as you go

I've posted below about poor coverage for an iphone I've just bought. If I swapped it for a pay as you go could I try different providers then revert back to contract? Also can I keep the same number if I use different payg providers.

It doesn't sound like O2 is going to meet your needs so you need to cancel before the 7 days are up. After this you are locked in for 2 years.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

If you buy from O2 it will be locked to O2 so you cannot try other network sims.

Best if your son asks what networks his friends are on who are getting the coverage he needs.

If your on contract then insert your Pay Monthly Sum card and make several calls to latch it's imei number to your account and then request unlock via the online form.

https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset%20Unlocking%20Form

You could only keep your O2 number by requesting a PAC Code to give to the other network and thus would move your mobile number across, although this will end the O2 account meaning that SIM card would de activate ,and any monies owed on the contract to O2 ref how many Months left to pay would then be payable.
