iPhone 5 - 12 Month Contract for Exisiting Customers

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am wondering if O2 themselves can shed some light on why the iPhone 5 is currently only available on 24 month contracts?

As an existing customer with any other phone I can upgrade to a 12 month contract but it is not giving me the option on the iPhone 5.

If this is in fact the case I think it's ridiculous that O2 are taking advantage of the situation and not being loyal to their exisiting customers (as this is what they bang on about a lot). ie. 12 month contracts for exisiting customers (which is advertised in their current magazine).

Any help on this matter would be appreciated.

It'll be interesting to see if my post is left up here. When I was just about to buy a 24 month contract a few days ago, the person I was speaking to on the phone at O2 said "If you wait a couple of weeks we'll be bringing out 18 and 12 month contracts. At the moment we've only got 24 month contracts available unfortunately for the people who will buy anything. It happened last time and it'll happen this time." Needless to say I thanked her for her honesty and am biding my time. I think you're all being a bit hasty in berating O2. Much as I'm dying to get my hands on a 5, this is straightforward market forces at play. If you want to make a hasty decision to go to another provider who will give you untold stress and partial coverage, then good luck to you. It's a free market, irritating though it may be.

Actually, this didn't happen last time. I would also know as I worked there at the time. That's when I did my 12 month upgrade. And yes loyal O2 customers are being locked in for 2 years as they want the latest technology... Now that's hasty of O2. U can upgrade anything to 12 month but I iphone 5, that's naughty. Luckily I just took my iPhone 5 back to O2 and cancelled, fortunately I came into a bit of money the other day and I have just bought an unlocked one, t mobile have just got my business for a sim only which I will be transferring to 4G when it's available on EE. Personally I think O2 are locking people in for 2 years as their 4g isn't going to work with this current iPhone 5. Well iv got my PAC and I'm off now. I was speaking to one of my old managers yesterday and he said many people have cancelled over this reason. Bye bye O2.... I must admit il miss my freebies on priority moments.

And why aren't the 12 and 18 available now? (Reasons above)Why should those who que for hours and who preorder be penalised and be locked in for longer - if anything they should be rewarded. Another naughty tactic of O2 was to charge more in store for the handsets than they did online preorders. I paid £50 more for doing it in store. But not to bang on... Iv cancelled now. About 7 years worth of custom gone.

But you can go to Tesco 12 months and still be on O2 network.

O2 don't listen to their existing customers.

I'd be very interested to know if there are any official figures for the amount of customers that leave then come back.

I hope they will:) unfortunately I don't see it happening without a huge exodus) talking 4-5 figured amounts.

O2 will lose customers and then on the flip side will also gain new customers from other networks thats the way it goes. slight_smile
