how to unlock my phone

hey so just got myself a blackberry on o2 pay as you go but I am moving back to south africa at the end of the month and am going to need to get it unlocked so that I can use it with my sim card at home?

As locked phones are subsidised O2 won't normally unlock them until they are a year old.

when I bought my phone though the guy said that I can unlock it before a year but it will just mean that my phone will no longer be under warranty?

officially unlocking has no effect on the warranty of a handset!

As it is payg you may have the 12 month issue

I suspect what the chap meant was that if the OP had a third party unlock, it would void the warranty. Which it will do.
