complete unwillingness to do a deal

Hi,
Whats changed since my previous renewal to make o2 completely opposed to making a deal with renewing customers? currently on an iphone tariff (£40 with £15 discount (£25)) and they won't even try and shift from their normal prices on regular tariffs if i were to change my phone.
A ridiculous stance that has forced me to go elsewhere.

As always if you can find a better deal, then you should take it. Just make sure you fully understand what you are signing up for.
You write as if its personal, but O2 (or any other provider) are just looking at how much you spend and whether they will make a profit. That seems understandable in the current climate.

The question really is more of a case of looking at the demand and quantifying retaining customers for such a small price. There no shortage in new customers signing up so no need to offer deals. All networks - in the blunt money factor - will have determined that losing a low spend customer is a minor loss to the long term newbie.
Besides there isn't much difference in tariffs between the majors so in one respect, you could be worse off eg VF don't allow you to downgrade so you are committed to the full tariff. As above, check carefully the T+C's before you move.

As a matter of interest, where do you go and what deal were you offered? :robotindifferent:

Is the problem just that you lose the discount if you upgrade/renew because I'm fairly sure that no operator will give you a £15 discount on a new contract?

the (one of) better deal is....
o2: Nokia N8 (£49, knocked down from £89), 24 month contract, 300 mins, unlimited texts, 500 mb data £30 per month
Ended up with orange: Nokia N8 (FREE), 24 month contract, 300 mins, unlimited texts, 1gb data £25 per month

i wasn't altogether that fussed about retaining my £15 discount, it was the fact that o2 would not budge, not even to match a better sim only deal from another provider. (Although, i can see why going to tesco mobile wouldnt bother them)

What you should do is phone them and tell them you don't want the web and wifi bolt on for £5, and you would rather just have free web usage. This will work, it will be exactly the same as what you've quoted, but £25.

I know the feeling. I remember when O2 used to have their "VIP" service called O2 Select. It's probably like Readers Digest telling you that you are the special prize winner... Probably will be my last contract with O2 now and drop to 30day simplicity/migrate elsewhere...
I also remember reading an online article going back a year or so where someone from O2 was explaining the special rewards that O2 retentions staff would get for winning a customer over... One of them being a holiday abroad..
As mentioned earlier, they are after all a profit making company...
