annoyed with o2 'insurance'

Anonymous
Not applicable
In April or May this year, i bought a new iphone, cash, from an o2 store, i also bought the years insurance upfront also cash there and then. spending a total of over 600 in the store that day.
A few months later i broke the phone, and at the time i was so pleased i had the insurance.
the same day however, i needed to get in touch with my sons dad, about when he was bringing our son back, so i took the sim out of my smashed to bits iphone, and put it in a friends phone to quickly send a text.
I called o2 insurance department to put my claim in, and was told that because i'd put the sim in another phone, my insurance was void???
Is this right? i'm highly annoyed! recently spoke to a newly made friend who worked for carphone warehouse, and he said this is rubbish?
whats the truth?

The policy does say that the phone is only covered when it has the sim card in and is using the correct number in the covered phone.

Hmm, doesn't sound right to me. As far as I'm aware the rule is that your sim card must be in the handset at the time of the incident. However, if you then put your sim into another handset to use in the mean time this should be fine. At the end of the day that's probably what the vast majority of people would do. Certainly wasn't an issue when I made a claim with similar circumstances.

they are conning you or there has been a misunderstanding
it is true if you are using a different sim in your handset when the accident occurs then you wont be covered , if your using you sim and have an accident then your covered
so if what you say is true and you had an accident with your pghone number in the phone then put it in another phone to make some calls as your phone is broken then you should be fine
however o2 insurance will be able to tell what time and date you put your sim into another phone etc
make it clear to them what happend as it sounds like there has been a misunderstanding on their behalf
if they have refusd the claim you may have to appeal against it instead of making another claim

I think the problem here is that O2 know the sim card was being used in another phone before they received the insurance claim.
