abused by international data roaming with an iphone

News about to go around the web:
-----------
Please please please may you write an article on how o2 people are being abused by international data roaming with an iphone. I have an o2 iphone and work in France, the unlimited data policy does not cover anything outside of the UK, and ALL data packages offered by o2 are not available for iphone users. Which means I can use my iphone abroad - BUT with a charge of 7.05gbp per Mb. Which means an average of 140gbp a month, which really means I would be stupid to use my iphone overseas, which means for any travel it is as useful as a nokia 2110.

Many thanks,

I express my personal view on forums, not those of a company. However, the reason I mentioned the blackberry tarif is because it sounds a more suitable tariff/contract for people who are looking to receive/send emails abroad.

So you admit that you are working for them.
You may be right about blackberry, we are going to look into that for my daughter.

I am on this forum as a O2 iphone customer. I'm not on here as an employee of O2. My views/posts are in the view to help, assist or clarify things for other O2 customers.

Because your not jumping on the 'O2 should refund me money for all the services I openly admit to using' bandwagon.

O2 is a business. There are charges for using services. If you don't agree with those charges then don't agree to the terms and conditions. Don't agree to the contract. I 100% agree that data roaming charges are too expensive so I choose not to use that service.
These charges are not hidden in some small print, it is easy accessible information.
O2 have been refunding and trying to educate people on these charges for nearly a year. They can't continue to keep refunding people who simply couldn't be bothered to call customer services or visit the website to make some enquires.

I might as well start making international calls from my landline. Can't be that much...but I'm a loyal BT customer so I will just ask them to refund it for me as i didnt think it would cost as much. If not then I will complain. Geez oh.

I also agree with you on this point chippie. I don't jump on the bandwagon because its a simple pratice of common sense that people are going to be charged when using the internet abroad on their iphone.

I am simply being realistic about the situation. It frustrates me the amount of people who try and claim that they're bright and the simple things (calling O2 before they go on holiday, checking the website for costs) are not there responsobilitie. Why arent they responsobile for it, it was them who signed the contract.....

I was fairly shocked to find I'm being billed £35 for data roaming. I kept data roaming switched off during my week in the USA. I used wifi for most of the time. There were about 3 occasions when I switched data roaming on for a couple of minutes to use email and google maps. These sorts of charges are insane. O2 was lose my custom because of this, now that both orange and vodafone have announced they will do the iPhone soon.

Google Maps burns through data. Google Maps on my phone (SE C902) has a really prominent data counter that rapidly clocks up to over one meg in no time at all... don't know if the iPhone version has this too, but it is pretty important...

Well I wouldn't go running to Orange, they charge £8 MB in the USA, £2 MB more than o2 do.
