Why is my mobile phone signal AND mobile network coverage so terrible?

Hi all,

Bought a Samsung s5 mini last August ('14) with 24M 2GB 4G monthly tarrif. I don't make a lot of calls or use the internet on my phone much when I'm out and about. For the first year it was fine, but a month or two ago the service started to get really bad.  My data would show plently left but it hardly ever works outside of the house (when I'm using wifi).

I have been in the process of moving house to a different city over september and haven't had the chance to get into an o2 shop but the problem is really starting to get on my nerves, considering the amount I am paying for a service I can barely use (£30 pm). Half the time my phone won't connect calls and the internet just doesn't work.  I thought it could be just the signal is bad with the lines in both the places where I was living, which is currently in the Huddersfield area - but as I said it worked well for a long time and then all of a sudden it went about 6 weeks ago. So does anyone here have similar experience or know how I might go about solving this? Or I will have to go direct to o2 and/or cancel my tarrif. Thanks in adance.

The only way to cancel your contract/tariff is to pay it in full....

Have you checked to see what network issues you might be having?A self help thread here...

Also the o2 network is going through a major upgrade at the moment and if your area is being done it will show on the status checker.

Thank you for the link to the thread. The area where I was both living before and now are currently working fine. The phone on/off also makes no difference, nor does removing my sim or battery. I am beginning to think it is a problem with my device as my partner is on Tesco mob network (who use the same masts as o2) and the signal is far superior to mine. I haven't anyone near me however with an o2 device to check my sim in, so I might have to call into the shop and see how that goes if there's no other suggestions...

If the tescos mobile is fine then that may indicate either sim or handset issues.

Have you tried the sim in your partners phone? Adapters are available from Tesco or o2 free. I think am o2 sim will work in a Tesco phone or you can a sim swap instore. That will be a clear indication as to where the problem lies.

Sim faults are rarely intermittent so I would send the phone to Samsung for repair.
Call 0330 SAMSUNG (726 7864)
