Before travelling to Ireland I spoke to an O2 guru about the best way to use my phone - I was only needing it for texts and possible the occasional phone call. I was advised to turn off mobile data and voicemail, which I did. Calls would be 50p making or receiving (1st 60 mins would come out of my allowance) and texts would be 5p to send. I used my phone to text. When I came home much to my dismay I had been charged £1.66 each day I had texted. On reading on the web it would have been much better for me to have been on standard rate. So much for the guru's advice! I feel let down

@Anonymous That was awful advice to be given! I am so annoyed for you. New travel rates came into force on the 7th April this year..... https://www.o2.co.uk/shop/international/using-phone-in-europe
I think you are justified in making a complaint if honest...http://www.o2.co.uk/how-to-complain

An o2 guru...absolutely misnomer. We have been advising about this for months now. Personally I would be making a complaint.

We have just got back from a month in Ireland 2 weeks in NI and 2 weeks in the ROI
My mate was billed £15 from O2 for the pleasure, I had used my phone more but got a text from 3 saying I had saved £15.46 !!!
The localO2 shop had told my mate N.Ireland was a foreign country !!! someone needs educating.
There is a moral there

Not sure what moral you are talking about @Anonymous? The countries covered by O2 Travel are in this link so maybe should have been checked out https://www.o2.co.uk/shop/international/using-phone-in-europe
And yes, people on the Three networks do get a better deal with any type of Travel package...
Northern Ireland is classed as part of the UK...RO1 is not....
