Why do O2 and all the other operators make roaming so complicated?

Hi @Anonymous that is a very good question. 

 

If im honest I don’t believe any one or the networks are out to confuse people. I think the ultimate issue is the volume of information out there. 

 

O2 I have to be honest hasn’t made the extra o2 travel extension easy. But I’m hoping with all the info we are able to help customers more now. 

 

Always happy to help regarding roaming. Not sure why but I love the topic and find it interesting. Gluten for punishment me lol.

As for after Brexit ... mobile phone companies in Norway and Switzerland offer customers inclusive roaming in Europe (and elsewhere), so I can't see UK companies turning back the clock 15 years as far as roaming prices go ...

I don’t think any one knows what’s happening.

 

it will be what it will be,  I’m also hoping though that the networks don’t re add charges back on.  

 

I do enjoy going to EU and not have to worry.  I’m more of a photo take and send using what’s app etc, I don’t have Facebook. Yep prob the only one in the world that doesn’t lol. 

 

But it it is nice to use my phone overseas.  I’ve had bills in the past that range from £100-300 for 2 weeks in USA. I paid it as I used it, so I knew what I was getting.  It’s nice that o2 now offer it in some tariffs or even at a lower cost in others. 

 

We we just all need to wait and see

Thanks Daz.

I think your guides do a good job in explaining what is I think we all agree a very confusing subject. And no I don't think the CEO and boards of the networks sit around and say we are going to make this as confusing as possible.
However also I don't think they have any vested interest in making it less complicated especially considering the legislation which has forced them to make roaming effectively free in the EU and capped per month data charges to £40.

I agree nobody knows what's going to happen after brexit but my fear is that the networks will take the opportunity to push prices up especially for EU roaming. But as you say only time will tell.
