In the past 2 weeks, I've received 7 calls to my mobile, trying to get me to sign up for a new phone contract. My current O2 contract is up in just over a week. After googling the phone numbers, it seems they are spam / scam attempts which others have received. What I'd like to know is where these people got my information from. They know my name, phone number (obviously and the date that my contract ends. Is this customer information being leaked from inside O2? I've given up answering these calls, but I'd still like to know how these people got a hold of my personal details. They have claimed to be from different companies, including O2 (which I know isn't the case).

I have had several calls from this number. 01612776608. Some guy with an Irish accent . He never gets as far as offering anything and as I have an 02 payg phone he sure ain't trying to get me to upgrade.
After tonights calls, IO bluntly asked WHAT DO YOU WANT (yes , I know caps means I am shouting), He started lecturing me about being rude!!. I told him I didn't ask him to phone me and as it is my phone, I'll answer how I bleedin like. He informed m that he had every legal right to call my mobile and I replied that I had every right to tell him to go away (not the actual word I used)
He called again with a few seconds so I told hime his persistance in annoying me has resulted in my decision to dump 02 as soon as my current balance is depleted and look elsewhere fo a provider. I do hope 02 are happy to see what their "Trusted Partners" are doing to their customers. So far, 4 other family members of some 20 years + as 02 customers have decided to move on. Yes, other providers probably have the same trusted partner (spammers) deal, but this guy telling me how to answer my phone just went too far. Tell you what though, he sure is a super salesman!

I have googled it and none of the sites I read have any info on who it is exactly. I know its a Manchester code.
As you say, you didnt ask for the call so he should have no problem if you tell him to go away (In whatever way you want to actually).....
In my O2 you can turn off marketing preferences (as he inferred he was from O2)

No doubt he does have every right to call me. What he doesn't have the right to do is lecture me on how I answer calls on the phone which I PAY FOR. Hence the reason for me leaving 02. I reserve the right to tell any caller to go away. I'm talking on MY phone in MY house and some **bleep** has NO right to advice me on my telephone manner.

We all deal with spam calls in different ways. To me, if I dont ask for them to call, I would class it as spam......or at best a damn nuisance. I had a similar experience last week when I had a call from someone insisting I could get my electricity cheaper elsewhere. I told him where to go. I abhor cold calling of any type.. I find there is absolutely no need to be pleasant to them if they dont take no for an answer.

Yes, I will. It is just unfortunate, or poor service, when the option to opt out of marketing from 02 has been withdrawn from the website. As a person who is hard of hearing, I detest talking to call centres ad now the only way is to send them a letter. How archaic.
Are they seriously inferring that this is helpfull for the customer? Surely it is easier and more cost effective to deal with an online opt out rather than the labour intensive surface mail?. Or maybe the idea is that many customers will simply give up to avoid the hassle.
The very term "Trusted Partners" is a missnomer if ever I heard one.

Hi @Anonymous
You can opt out of marketing. I am using my pc and having gone into MyO2. This is displayed when you look along the top header. Where you see the title MORE (far right) you click on that and 'my preferences' is displayed....that is where you can allow marketing or opt out
Edited response....as I have displayed my phone number...Thanks @MI5 for highlighting that Duh me

From the O2 web site:
Marketing communications
If you don't want us or our partner companies to send you relevant offers or marketing information, you can opt out anytime via your PC in My O2, by clicking on the My Choiceslink in the My Mobile section. These changes can only be made using your PC - you won't be able to see this option if you are accessing My O2 via the app or the mobile website on your phone.
