Spam phone calls regarding upgrading, due to end of contract.

Anonymous
Not applicable

In the past 2 weeks, I've received 7 calls to my mobile, trying to get me to sign up for a new phone contract. My current O2 contract is up in just over a week. After googling the phone numbers, it seems they are spam / scam attempts which others have received. What I'd like to know is where these people got my information from. They know my name, phone number (obviously slight_smile and the date that my contract ends. Is this customer information being leaked from inside O2? I've given up answering these calls, but I'd still like to know how these people got a hold of my personal details. They have claimed to be from different companies, including O2 (which I know isn't the case).

They are trusted partners by O2 which use your info which is part of the T&C. You can turn these off in the preferences oanel of your myo2 or send a letter to remove yourself.

You could check in your Myo2 to see what your preferences, list of options on the left, choose My Choices or write to O2 to remove yourself from this type of cold call again.

This really annoys me!

Since i was unfortunate enough to join O2, i have constantly been pestered with marketing calls from PPI companies, car accident compensation, loan consolidation etc etc.

I have never authorised my details to be shared and would love to know how these companies get your details. I have only ever started getting these cold calls since joining O2.

No longer possible to change the settings in MY O2. You have to call or write in now unfortunately.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

As discussed before the default should be no to marketing and using your information. The option to change your preferences has now been removed from My O2 and it seems a phone call is necessary. That will probably be way too late anyway. Once these 'trusted partner' companies get your info they just share it too.

It is really infuriating that this practice continues.

So many people think it is O2. So many people have had bad experiences with these so called 'trusted partners' (who, after all, just want your money!) slight_frown

Thanks for the information. I'm always as careful as I can be to not agree to sharing my details with other parties, but if it's in the contract T&C's there's not much you can do. I'm just blocking these numbers after Googling and confirming that they are Spam phone renewal contracts. It's not in O2's interests to allow these calls anyway, as they all seem to be wanting you to move your contract away from O2.

Only 7? You were lucky, I had 23!!!

Last time you upgraded or when you took out your contract, did you do it directly with O2?

The reason I ask, is that myself & a number of people I know suffering the same thing all used phones4U, and since P4U were stopped from selling O2, it looks like they may have sold our details.

I've had a lot more since, including two spoof texts today, alledgedly about O2 trying to call me and me missing the call, when I've had no missed calls this morning. Number now blocked.

Googling the number shows that others have been told that the calls were from Orange and that they were asked for Bank account details by the caller - obviously dodgy. Funny how these only started in the 2 weeks lead up to my contract renewal - someone's been selling information on . . .

I renewed my contract in-store last time with O2. Never dealt with other phone companies.
