Samsung Omnia on O2 - Internet, MMS, etc. Settings

Ok so I got my Omnia on O2 from Mobiles.co.uk a week and a half ago. Transferred my old O2 number which I've had for 3 years across no problem despite O2 giving me the hard sell trying to keep me even though I wasn't going anywhere!

I have however, been unable to get online or send MMS messages. I called O2 and went into my local shop but both said that O2 'do not support' the Samsung Omnia. They suggested I called Samsung which I did.

Samsung sent me two messages which were passcode protected. They said that once I put in the pass code it would update my settings automatically and I'd be off. I did as they said (about 4 days ago) and still no luck. They said if it didn't work to ring them back and they'd go through manual settings with me. Unfortunately I've not had time as I only seem to get a minute to myself whilst Samsung are closed!

Does anyone have a guide to inputting the manual settings or know where one is available?

Thanks in advance.

PS I realise there is already a thread on the Omnia but it appears more concerned with people actually getting their hands on one. I thought it might be handy to have an easy to use, easily accessible resource to help people get online.

Hi, I have the same problem but got my Omnia online with o2 contract. O2 only say that Omnia is not supported. Even the new 2102 get your balance text service doesn't work. I have been onto Samsung and spent an hour with their tech support going through manual settings to no avail. I think you will be lucky if you get this working. I will be going to different operator when my contract ends as I know the Omnia works with other operators.

Just selling my Omnia (as my N95-8GB is much better) and after flashing the firmware from the Vodafone firmware to a generic UK firmware the phone configured itself for o2 (the self configuration is built in to Windows Mobile but is disabled/removed on branded phones).

If you are confident, I would seriously recommend upgrading to the latest generic firmware, apart from removing the hideous operator branding, the latest UK firmware seriously improves battery life (my stock Vodafone Omnia lasted only 1 day between charges, after the update this was trippled, and that is using WiFi, GPS etc every day).

Have a look at www.modaco.com in their Omnia sub-forum for details how to update the firmware. Takes about 10 minutes.

Just thought I would try o2 support line again using opt 4 "Unhappy with service" and got through to someone who did some further investigation into my problems. It seems that number porting, if not done correctly, causes issues with WAP/GPRS and MMS setup if not all settings are ported correctly even though I only ported from PAYG to Contract both on o2. Anyway this guy found something on a back office system that was the causing my connection problems. He had to send an internel e-mail to the number porting team who are going to sort it out. I have to wait 48 hours but will let you know if this works. I had been told 3 times on the phone and in o2 shop previously that my account had been activated for internet/MMS. Fingers crossed.

Well it finally worked. O2 CS systems have been up and down for last couple of weeks but eventually got through to agent when their systems came back online. Had 3 way conversation with tech support and they had to manually configure my account with 3 APN's ?? which would normally be set up automatically. Anyway, MMS and web browsing now works and I'm happy. It really seems to depend on which agent you get when you speak to O2 CS.

Hello, after hours of trying to sort this out, I thought I would save you the time and explain what to do to get the internet working on the Samsung Omnia with o2.

Press the Menu key
Tap Settings
Tap Connections tab at bottom
Tap Connections
Tap Manage Existing Connections
In Modem Tab, tab edit
Enter a name for the connection - o2 pay monthly
Tap Next
Access Point Name - wap.o2.co.uk
Tap Next
User Name - o2wap
Password - password
Domain - 8080
Tap Finish.
Last tap Proxy Settings
Tick both boxes and in Proxy Server enter 193.113.200.195, and OK

Then..... Hey Presto!!!

Hi there I have a Samsung Omnia i900 on 02 but it was previously Vodaphone. Cannot connect to internet unless via wifi and cannot get emails. Tried the settings you gave on here and it didn't work so I tried to delete the settings and try again but now it says everytime I try: a connection already exists with this name. Then it won't let me do anything.

Also what do you put in the scroll down box for modem? Options are: Bluetooth, Cellular Line, Cellular Line GPRS, Generic IrDA or Hayes Compatible on COM1: Any help would be appreciated, it's driving me insane!

I've been into 02 store and they said they could do no more. I've tried Samsung forums etc etc.

Many thanks,

Sarah - confused!!!

Hi,

I have spent hours reading replies and posts from so many people with this same problem, so having a solution would be beneficial to all o2 customers with a Omnia Lite.

I have tried texting 2020 for the internet settings.
I have tried contacting Samsung for help and internet settings.
I have attempted to contact o2 for the internet settings and they say they don't support this model.
I have read 3 different guides to manually setting up my phone with the internet settings needed for my Omnia lite.

All I want to do is connect to my unlimited facebook that o2 offers me, and I can't do it.

I've had this problem for months now, and if it doesn't get sorted soon I'll go crazy.

Does ANYONE know the real payasyougo settings for the Omnia Lite.... Please help us.
