Ring O2 for iPhone 4. It works!

Okay so after much reading and confusion about how exactly to get an iPhone 4, I assumed that I would just have to sit back and wait for one. I tried ringing all my local O2 stores, ringing carphonewarehouse stores and order line, same with phones4u etc etc.

I thought Id ring O2 upgrades and see what they said. I knew it, "No your average monthly spend is only £42.08, and you need to pay at least £50" Odd I thought, as my contract is £45 a month so how could it be less, but nevertheless I didn't question it.

So I rang back. "No we dont do the early upgrade offer over the phone, has to be instore"

Ring again. "Need to be gold member"

Ring again. "Try instore mate"

...and again "Sure Mr Petch, we'll do that right away"

My only tip is to keep trying. I was planning on making up some story about "was told to ring this number, i was Guaranteed to get an upgrade, speak to your manager, going to cancel" etc etc but there was no need!

Anyway, I hope this helps some!

Jordan.

Thanks kman!

So are you saying you managed to order one from them today? What time did you call?

I called at about 1pm. Was only a ten minute call and it was all done. The girl I spoke started putting through a 16g phone and I said I wanted a 32g, bet they're not in stock and she said 'no, we have both available'.

Must have called about 50 times last week. I was starting to think it was a hoax that you could order them over the phone, lol.

Best of luck again, I wish I could offer more specific advise but I think it is totally random about who you get.

Literally JUST got off the phone to Customer Services.

I only rang to see if I had to change tariff if I bought an iPhone SIM Free from Apple and tried to use my existing Online 35 contract with it.

They asked why I was getting it from Apple and I told them that it was because O2 were very hit and miss when it came to deciding whether they had stock or not. She then "checked" and said that they had plenty of stock, and offered to upgrade me early.

I was going to pay £499 for the phone SIM free. I just paid £320 to end my contract early (only 3 months into an 18 month contract), and £89 for the 16GB on a £40/month tariff, which is the same as what I was on before.

So I've saved myself £90 (ideal as I'm off to London at the weekend!), and the phone turns up "in 1-2 working days".

What number did you ring to get this? Did you go through to retentions?

0844 809 0202 then option 2 for orders and upgrades.

I've found that if you get a bit narky (harsh but seems to work), then they suddenly "find" some iPhones.

Hope this helps.

Hmmm. Just rang up. Before I even got to speak to anyone the automated message said they were out of stock of iPhone 4. Did this happen to you? Is it worth speaking to someone anyway?

OK, just rang up again and it seems they do have them all in stock. 16GB and 32Gb.

He was very insistent on flogging me home and mobile broadband but eventually finalised everything.

Thanks for your help everyone!

Yeah, I can see you ignored that and tried again (like I did) slight_smile

Glad you got it sorted out.

So, to anyone faced with the automated "We're out of stock on the iPhone 4" message - IGNORE IT AND WAIT UNTIL YOU SPEAK TO SOMEONE!
