I thought Id ring O2 upgrades and see what they said. I knew it, "No your average monthly spend is only £42.08, and you need to pay at least £50" Odd I thought, as my contract is £45 a month so how could it be less, but nevertheless I didn't question it.
So I rang back. "No we dont do the early upgrade offer over the phone, has to be instore"
Ring again. "Need to be gold member"
Ring again. "Try instore mate"
...and again "Sure Mr Petch, we'll do that right away"
My only tip is to keep trying. I was planning on making up some story about "was told to ring this number, i was Guaranteed to get an upgrade, speak to your manager, going to cancel" etc etc but there was no need!
Anyway, I hope this helps some!

Also, what stories did you use? I mean what did you say? What method did you take>
I've phoned 4 times, 3 yesterday, 1today and have had no luck.
I'm on 30 quid a month contract.
I was thinking of asking them to put me through to cancellations so they would upgrade me, but i'm scared they'll actually put me through. I guess I could just hang up!

Id do the complaints thing, but just make it sound convincing. People might think its unfair to try and trick O2 but tbh, it seems they themselves don't know whose allowed to upgrade and who isn't!
And lets face it, nowhere does it say that you CAN upgrade on the phone, it says the opposite, so why are they letting people?
Ask to speak to a supervisor, least then they know your not being serious. Or say you were halfway through a transaction and it cut off, why can't I now? Whose to say your lying?

Yes I used the early upgrade offer, so it was £20 a month, and my contract expired in October 2011, so I had MORE than a year left on it.
And I used 2302 then options 2, 2, 1, 2 and got put in a queue!
