Registering for iPhone 4. What's the point?

So there is no pre order being offered by O2, so I'm wandering what is the point of "registering"? Are we only to get a nice lil micro sim card to look at because as it stands I'm not going to get time off work in order to hit the queue at my local O2 store first thing on the 24th. It all seems to be turning out a bit messy.

I'm really annoyed with O2... have been a loyal customer for over 6 years. Chose to take out a new 24 month contract with them and get an iPhone. Despite visiting a high street store and speaking at length to the online sales advisor they still allow me to purchase a iPhone 3GS on the 18th May without bothering to inform me that the 4G was coming out. Indeed they make their official announcement a mere 3 weeks later, 7 days too late for me to cancel the contract. Am absolutely gutted, stuck with an out of date phone now for the next 2 years. Proper underhand tactics that I wouldn't of expected from O2.

And you have proof that O2 knew about the new handset do you?

Why didn't you bother to research it before taking out a new contract?

This is funny! The 3gs is hardly old technology and it will serve you well for the next two years.

It is not O2's job to educate you and there have been plenty of rumours of a new iPhone for months.

When you picked up that phone you were probably happy as a pig in poo. The only thing that has changed is you.

You need to keep it real!

To be honest, I'm trying to weigh up the major differences between the 3GS and iPhone 4 once ios4 is installed on the 3GS. Apart from the HD video, 5mp cam, face time, and the display. There's not much in it. So I'm gonna be happy with my ios4 updated 3GS for the meantime as becoming an iPhone 4 owner seems to be a while off for me.

It's been talked about on the forum and in the press for months that that the i4 would be announced in June 2010 as they do every year.Minimal research would have given you that information. The O2 salesman's job is to sell you a phone and service not to send you home and say comeback in a month.

The consensus of opinion in the many threads on upgrading before your contract is up, is to sell the phone and buy the i4 on P&G and use your contract sim. If you don't want to be 'stuck with an out of date phone for 2 years', I think that would be one of your options. The other would be to enjoy your 3GS and not worry about having the 'latest and greatest' model on the market.

That is your own fault not o2's. No official information was given to o2 staff that the Phone 4 was going to come out. If you did a little research in to this, it would have been obvious to you that an iPhone was coming out soon.

Has the iPhone 4 was not announced till the June 7 at WWDC. Then how do you expect O2 to have known on the 18 May when it was going to be announced/released?

Even if they had known, they would have been forbidden to disclose this information I imagine.

What's wrong with the 3GS, its a dam good bit of kit and it will have most of the features of the iPhone 4, with the shortly to be released OS4 software, this will give the 3GS, multi tasking, folders and over 90 other additions. slight_smile
