Picture message charges

Why am I getting charged now for picture messages sent off my iPad as iMessages ?!?! In the past? iMessage picture messages were free (blue) but now they can be green on the iPad ! If the pictures are unable to be sent as blue iMessages I DON'T want them to go as chargeable text messages ! Swines! Another clever way to rack up our bills. How do I prevent this?

It's a new feature of iOS8 which links your iPad to your phone account.
You need to turn off the MMS option in settings.

@MI5 your expertise here please. If there has been an upgrade to software and o2 have not advised of the impending change which would result in charges being levied where they weren't before, would this not be illegal under the Unfair Contact Terms Act?

I feel the OP would have good grounds at this time to request a credit IF o2 haven't advised in advance of these potential charges.

Hi

My iPad is connected to my iPhone so either on receiving a call both ring and on reciving a text they are both blue on the iPhone and iPad.

I'd suggest to the Op that they first check that everything is fine from the sender who should also be on an iDevice is ok ,and that they trouble shoot their own iMessage settings.

There is a good chance that O2 will refund charges as a goodwill gesture but I also believe that users should familiarise themselves with any changes made by software updates, no matter which OS or device they are using.
