Phone number spoofed

my friends have been telling me that they have missed calls from me. Those calls are not in my call log.

I changed my number to end the issue. Only to have a friend asking 1 month later if I called them.

I cannot keep changing number not only will O2 charge me. But, this is hugely inconvenient. 

Any other suggestions please on how to stop the imposters.

Ps as no fraudulent activity has happened the police are unable to get involved

@Dorthe2021 Unfortunately there's nothing you can do about it personally, and at present, there isn't much the authorities can do either. Until they can it's a plague we all have to put up with.

Number spoofing scams - Ofcom

Very annoying.  I am now having to remember which friend I have advised to block my number. So, that they do not get these spoof calls from me. At least I can still contact them via the likes of WhatsApp
