If you check your location it will more than likley say everything is working fine. That is because the cell site is working.

Further down the page it has planned and unexpected sections in the unexpected section you will see the major issue.

Also on the bbc just now o2 have advised that the advice on another thread http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Discussions-Feedback/SOME-TRICKS-TO-OVERCOME-THE-CRASH/m-p/254759 to disable 3g will resolve the issue.

Also the issue is on the o2 homepage now.

I am just another customer but have not been affected.

This looks like a data center issue preventing your sim card to register on the o2 network.

O2 have said 2G now restored to most areas, in fact mine has just returned at 8.33am.

I only use my phone on 2g Mode to save battery. Had signal/connectivity first thing. Nothing again now!

3G back on now in W Yorkshire at 8.55am.

From the home page 8am:

Service update from O2:

08:00 – We can confirm that our 2G network service has now been restored. Customers who were affected should now be able to make and receive calls.

Our 3G service is starting to restore and customers should expect to see a gradual return of data services as the day progresses.

Customers affected may wish to try switching their mobile phones off and on as service returns.

We are sorry again for the inconvenience this has caused some customers and can provide reassurance that we continue to deploy all possible resources, and will do so until full service is restored.

There is no service at the time of writing this in North London. The service came on briefly, but has gone down again. Even the O2 status page has been down. I expect that things will gradually return over the course of the day.
