Just out of pure curiosity, I wonder what the oldest handset is that still sees use on the O2 network and, additionally, how old the oldest SIM card still in use is? Any suggestions?

Out of the millions of O2 customers there is a relatively very small percentage who post on the community so I doubt we will get a definitive answer. I don't know anyone personally who uses a very old phone except as backup. Sim card and battery yes, regular use, no.

I don't know how old 'old' is.....
As a latecomer to the world of smartphones i do have 2 motorola's. A Razr and a Krzr K1...both working
however only ever used as backup phone (with O2 numbers)
I hung on to the Krzr models for grim death....and in the end could only get them from Hong Kong.
It comes with me every time I go abroad, fully charged, ready for action in case the S3 ever lets me down
