O2 rip off ! Has anyone else been conned in to paying premium charges without realising it ?

I went online one day to Tesco direct and up popped a " free" entry in to some competition with a chance to win an IPad. Stupidly , ( as it turns out) I filled in the online form with my mobile no and email etc . Next thing , I get this text ..says.." Text this no to start playing" some bloody game.!! Then, I get charged extra money on my mobile phone acc. for doing nothing ! Then , I get charged for texting " stop" to these crooks. I decided to get in touch with O2 about this via live chat..and surprise surprise, they say nothing to do with them but promised to look in to it...which ...surprise surprise...they didn't ! 

The only certain thing about all this is that I will NOT be renewing my contract with O2...EVER !

This needs to be referred to PhonePayPlus who are the regulators. Its a scam but nothing to do with o2. These people pray on people entering their details on competition sites.

@Anonymous I'm puzzled as to why you think this is O2's fault? You were the one who clicked on an ad and entered your details. Do you think another network would have any kind of a different response to something that is clearly your responsibility?

I would direct your anger towards tests who have obviously allowed this advert on their site, however it may also be that you have an adware client installed on your device that puts these "click to enter (click to authorise)" adverts on any page.
Nothing at all to do with o2 and I don't even see anywhere you were "conned" by them either

Sounds like someone has a browser malware infection.....but surely the way to do it is get a separate payg sim for signing up for things like this?

Am afraid to say, this scam is affecting people on all networks.  If you want more information, please let us know the 5 digit number which the premium text came from.
